You returned to town on a Tuesday and the Banquet will be held on Saturday
All characters see signs proclaiming the banquet with calls to honor all those who fought and those who gave their lives in defense.
All characters see that the banquet is open to all of the town and there are many sponsors who will be providing food and drink. Bands will play and there will be dancing and revelry.
AS THE BANQUET STARTS:
Flags and banners are hung. Great long tables are set up and several tents are erected. Over several days you see stuff being put in place for the feast.
There are special tables reserved for the town garrison who fought and the town wizards and clerics who aided with spells and healing. And there is a table reserved for the party Each of their names carved into a place-mat made of slate, set on the table
When the day comes you see Storm briefly just before the fest gets started but see him no more later in the fest. His place sits empty throughout the feast
Ganra is not seen, but Armand the other druid is around for awhile
The rest of you are treated to hearty food, ale and wine.
Well-wishers thank you for your help.
The leaders of the Guild give pompous speeches
A band begins to play and dancing commences
Every character is approached and asked to dance by various well wishers, some with obvious romantic advances, others just to try and hear of your exploits.
Alynis tried to keep a low profile. Declining dances and advances. She wears her cloak to maintain some disguise and uses her prestidigitation to get out of situations (eg spill wine on herself and then use it to clean the stain, make a noise from the other direction and then slip away from the conversation, causes food to heat so people burn their mouth and can’t talk to her)
Helm Tallstag would be gracious but reserved. He still doesn’t drink but he would carry a flagon around to maintain appearances.
Leading up to the first feast/event, between his own responsibilities, Helm would be seeking out the others to see what they know about the town guilds. If they’re going to establish a long-term presence in the town and use it as as their fall-back/base-of-operations, they need to build on their current status and not offend any of the current “administration”.
AFTER THE FIRST HOUR
The 5 characters there are all seated at the same table, which has 6 chairs. Over the first hour of the fest the following occurs
Storm is nowhere to be seen
Helm has a mug of ale in his hand. He looks to be in a better mood then his usual gruff self. He sits and smiles as persons approach him, seemingly listening to what they say, but saying little in return save nods in agreement. He rarely drinks from the mug.
Alynis sits quietly at your table, her cloak is drawn about her shoulders and you can tell she’s done some make up work as a slight disguise. She sips a little wine here and there and picks at food. Eventually a well dressed elf brings something to here which seems more to here liking.
Kvothe has taken to showing some children some magic tricks in between an appetite that seems unusually large for such a slight person
Tiberius is quaffing down ale at a seemingly alarming rate. During his eating a female dwarf talks to him for awhile, she stands behind him and rubs his shoulders, then toys with his beard before darting off into the crowd
Turok is drinking and flexing his arm muscles for admirers. He is clearly enjoying the eating and the drinking. Those who talk to him look to mostly be fellow tough guys
MORE THAN AN HOUR LATER or so the band strikes more dance numbers. All characters have a good amount of food in them
Storm is still not seen
Helm continues to grumble over a mug of ale, he responds to persons engaging him in talk, but is short with his responses and doesn’t converse well. Conversations trail off and persons drift away…seemingly by design as Helm seems to be enjoying being alone in a crowd.
He is seen talking with Brother Theolonious who seems to be the mouth piece for the Temle of Pelor in town. There are several other interactions with well dressed, mostly corpulent humans looking to be guild members and other big wigs. Most interactions are short with Helm going back to staring into a mug of ale, which no one has seen him refill
Alynis Although you know her to be reserved and quiet, she does some time courteously talking with many who come over to her. You see several younger elves, some wearing robes of magicians talking to her on several occasions.
Being an attractive female she does attract the attention of young suitors who seem to be asking her to dance. In each case you witness her clumsily spill her glass of wine on herself and apologize to the suitor telling him “I’ve got to go clean this, maybe later” after the suitor leaves she does not leave and the wine stain on her dress is (magically?) gone
Kvothe can not stop his halfling tendencies from getting to him. With a little ale in him he joins the dance, alone he weaves in and out of the taller dancers in some sort of feverous jig. For Kvothe it is a glorious release to forget his many troubles. He does dance with several strangers but only briefly, it is just mostly himself whirling about the dance area.
Tiberius like Helm is mostly reserved, Brother Theolonious also talks to him, as do better dressed guild leaders and several soldier looking men and dwarves. The young female dwarf from earlier occasionally attempts to get him to dance, but he seems to be waiting for someone. Long into the dancing you see Tiberious stand. A female dwarf with bright red hair has walked near the table and their eyes are locked together.
Tiberius and the female dwarf whom you learn later is Gola Firestrike, owner of the smithy/forge in town, move onto the dance area and “slow dance” together. It is an odd dance with lots of bowing and slow rigid movements, completely opposite of Kvothe’s feverous jig. It must be a dwarf thing as you see several other dwarves move near them and rhythmically clap along.
You also see the young female dwarf whom he spurned earlier, arms crossed giving them the stink eye.
Turok has a good load of alcohol and food in him. Alcohol and massive amounts of food had always been a luxury when he was alone in the wild and he couldn’t stop himself from over indulgence. He moves onto the dance floor with several different ladies whom he was showing off his muscles earlier, dancing clumsily with a mug of ale in his hand, different women trying to teach him to dance results in reserved laughter at first, no one wanting to laugh at the huge barbarian…but when he falls and then lets out his own bellow-like laugh, others relax and he becomes something of a spectacle bringing smiles to everyone’s face with his clumsy dance moves and huge smile.
END OF BANQUET
The dancing continues and the ale and wine flows freely. About half of the guests have left when most of you decide that it is best to call it a night. There are still about 100 persons about and it is about midnight
Storm has not been seen
Tiberius decides that this ale is actually good, maybe just one more
Helm quietly says goodbye and is gone before you know it
Kvothe was last seen with some musicians goofing around on instruments
Turok has decided to wander back to the Cockatrice where he is staying, there is ale there too.
Alynis has also excused herself and walked back to the college in the company of several elves and half elves
Everyone eventually gets back to where they have a bed. You are all full and some of you are drunk. The morning comes much too soon….
